Commonly Asked Questions About Our Therapy Sessions

Heart to Heart Counseling and Wellness Center, PLLC in Fayetteville, NC understands that you might feel worried about your first session. To help lessen your worries and prepare you for your visit, we share some basic information about our therapy—answering the frequently asked questions of our clients.

What can I expect during the first session?

You can expect our therapist to create a safe, comfortable, confidential, and therapeutic environment during your visit. This way, you can feel at ease while you tell us your presenting problem and reasons for seeking therapy. To provide the most appropriate therapy, we would also strive to understand your history, including family, relationship, career, and psychological aspects. We will also keep in mind your current lifestyle, including your schedule, stressors, and support network.

After that, our therapist will explain the process and possibly discuss some of your initial therapy goals and objectives. Then, you will be encouraged to ask any question regarding our services as well as to share some of your objectives, concerns, and more. Once you’ve understood the process, we will do the following:

Discuss the frequency of visits Schedule your next visit
Complete basic paperwork (contact information, insurance, confidentiality, and more)

How long does each therapy session take?

Each session usually lasts for about 45–50 minutes. You don’t have to bring anything apart from yourself (and your insurance card if you would like to use your healthcare benefits).

how frequent should the sessions be?

Usually, we have therapy sessions with each client once per week. However, the frequency of visits may increase or decrease depending on your progress and needs.

how long will i be in therapy?

The length would depend on the presenting problem and goal of your treatment. Some people can complete their therapy within three to five session, while others take years. That is why our therapist works closely with our clients to properly determine how long a treatment would be. Aside from that, we strive to ensure that our therapy is clinically appropriate and our client feels comfortable throughout the sessions.

What if I need medication?

Sometimes, medications, such as antidepressants, are necessary to improve the condition of our clients. In case you need one, our therapist will provide a referral to a psychiatrist. We cannot give you medications because we currently don’t have a psychiatrist, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner on our team.
